By no means am I an expert in anything.

 

I would consider myself an open-minded well-rounded holistic individual and prefer to be this way. I don’t know a lot about a little, I know a good amount about a lot.

 

Over the years I’ve picked up on invaluable advice through the process of building a career as a student.

 

Here are 18 proven lessons I’ve learned to allow you to get anything you desire in life:

 

-Don’t network when you need to, continuously network because it’s the best investment in your future and in someone else’s. Get to know the person overtime, not just their role. It’s not a transaction. A network is an insurance policy money cannot buy.

 

-Never burn bridges with anyone. The world is a small place and you never know who you’ll need help from later on

 

-Never make assumptions or judge someone based on where they are today. Someone’s past doesn’t indicate their future

 

-Optimize and specify your resume. Don’t bother sending it if it isn’t tailored for the role or not personalized

 

-Always send a thank you note or get creative such as sending a box of donuts for a lasting impression even if you DIDN’T get the position. There’s always another chance.

 

-Things happen for you not to you. In hindsight that rejection could’ve been the best thing for you to land somewhere better

 

-Preparation + opportunity = success

 

-What separates leaders isn’t IQ, test scores, GPA, etc., it’s emotional intelligence. Anyone can learn anything. Character counts.

 

-What you put in is what you get out out of everything. 

 

-Shortcuts and not paying attention to details will slow you down and drastically compound

 

-Master non-verbal communication. Listening isn’t about obtaining as much info as possible, it’s building a connection with others. 

 

-Your reputation is everything. Everything

 

-Rejection is more common than success. Learn as much as you can, move on, try not to tie emotions to decisions, and never take it personally. 

 

-Following the crowd in many circumstances is illogical. Follow what works best for you. 

 

-The best tool in your toolbox is curiosity. Learning never stops beyond the classroom.

 

-If you really want something, there is always a way. If you don’t want it, you will make excuses. If there’s a will, there’s a way.

 

-Don’t make the highs too high or the lows too low. Balance and moderation are key.

 

-Hard choices = easy life, easy choices = hard life.
